Dr. Tozum serves as Professor in the Department of Periodontics. He is a dental graduate from Gazi University in Ankara, Turkey and completed an integrated post-graduate clinical education program in Periodontics at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey and Ph.D. training in bone metabolism from the University of Michigan and Hacettepe University. Dr. Tozum went on to earn a Certificate in Advanced Periodontics from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). Prior to joining UIC, Dr. Tozum served as Professor of Periodontics and Associate Dean of Dentistry at Hacettepe University. He also serves as a faculty member in the Advisory Board and Teaching Committee of PhD course in Bio-Engineering Applied to Medical Sciences at University of Messina, Italy, Adjunct Professor at Near East University, Cyprus and Adjunct Professor at Lokman Hekim University, Turkey.
Dr. Tozum is a Diplomate of Academy of Osseointegration (AO), serves as Vice-Chair for the AO Osseointegration Fund Research Grants Committee, and Chair for AO Web Site Education Committee. He has been serving in the editorial board of many internationally recognized 3D-digital dentistry, advanced periodontics and implant dentistry related scientific journals, including Clinical Oral Implants Research, Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research, Implant Dentistry, International Journal of Oral Implantology, the Journal of Implant and Advanced Clinical Dentistry, Journal of Contemporary Dental Practice (Associate Editor), and the Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Research.
Dr. Tozum has 10 awards/honors given by local, national and international scientific organizations for his clinical activities, teaching and research efforts in dentistry, periodontics and implant surgeries. He organized national and international dental meetings as well as implant dentistry related organizations, he lectured more than 100 times at national/international scientific meetings, and published 155 articles in peer reviewed scientific journals related to implant surgeries, 3-Dimensional imaging, and advanced periodontics. Dr. Tozum wrote and translated 14 book chapters about clinical periodontology, bone grafting and dental implant surgeries. He also served as the translation editor of a textbook related to full-arch dental implant rehabilitation. He has been in clinical dental practice about advanced periodontics and implant surgeries for more than 20 years.
